Planning Your Systems

Energy Efficiency, Conservation and Load Analysis

Please note that each dollar spent in conservation translates to three to five dollars saved on equipment to supply your energy.  It is much cheaper to conserve than produce energy.

To determine your energy usage – for grid-tie, just look at your utility bills. For off-grid and for planning battery-back-up systems for particular electrical loads or appliances, an energy usage monitor is useful. Our Off-grid catalogue, below, has a Load Evaluation form you can use to calculate your loads (page 15).

Electricity usage monitor – these easy-to-use monitors plug into an outlet so you can plug an appliance into the meter to determine your appliance’s electrical usage. They also have a setting so that you can leave an appliance plugged in over time to determine its usage over a 24 hour or more period, for items like fridges and freezers that come on intermittently.  It can also show you voltage, line frequency and power factor. These meters can also be used as a monitor for particular loads in your system.  We sell Kill-A-Watt meters - click here to contact us.

Please see our cataloges for specific load analysis details:

Net-Metering

If you have utility access and want to be net-metered, or sell power back to your utility this is a great way to offset your energy usage to help reduce your carbon footprint and offset your electrical bills.  Please contact us if you have questions about net metering. Click here to Contact Us
